St. George Utah - Hiking Heaven

The diversity of hiking opportunities in this area is quite remarkable. St. George lies in the southwest corner of Utah where two major deserts merge. The Mojave and Great Basin deserts cross over each other in the St. George Utah area. That means that the plants and animals of both deserts are found in this region. I tell you this because it means that, as you hike, you will find a very diverse number of plants and animals. The elevation of St. George is 2,800 feet but there is a mountain just north of St. George that rises over 10,000 feet and other mountains just a little further north that go over 11,000 and 12,000 feet. What this means to the hiker enthusiast is that you can do cool hikes in the summer and warm hikes in the winter. Daytime temperatures in St. George, in the winter, average in the 60's and for a hiker that is absolutely perfect, because you won't get too hot while hiking. The other great thing about winter hiking in St. George is that the skies are almost always blue and the wind just doesn't blow. It is so calm and peaceful that you'll absolutely love hiking in St. George in winter. In summer it is best to get out in the early mornings for a short hike or move up in elevation for a longer day-hike or back-packing experience. Hiking in St. George sounds great. Thanks for the information.

If you are near Estes Park or Fort Collins then check out some cool hikes I have documented for Rocky Mountain National Park and Lory State Park.

If you hike with kids or pets then check out child carrier backpacks and/or collapsible dog water bowls.
