Video of St. George

St. George is a visually stunning place with red-rock sandstone bluffs, volcanic lava fields and hillsides and large (back-drop) mountains. Check out this new video posted on this site: http://www.dostgeorge.com/st-george-video.html. Also look for it on this blog in the near future.

St. George also has a very interesting history with ancient ties to the Native Americans that lived in the region and with Mormon pioneers who began to settle the area as early as 1854. The video gives a little information about this.

St. George Utah - Hiking Heaven

The diversity of hiking opportunities in this area is quite remarkable. St. George lies in the southwest corner of Utah where two major deserts merge. The Mojave and Great Basin deserts cross over each other in the St. George Utah area. That means that the plants and animals of both deserts are found in this region. I tell you this because it means that, as you hike, you will find a very diverse number of plants and animals. The elevation of St. George is 2,800 feet but there is a mountain just north of St. George that rises over 10,000 feet and other mountains just a little further north that go over 11,000 and 12,000 feet. What this means to the hiker enthusiast is that you can do cool hikes in the summer and warm hikes in the winter. Daytime temperatures in St. George, in the winter, average in the 60's and for a hiker that is absolutely perfect, because you won't get too hot while hiking. The other great thing about winter hiking in St. George is that the skies are almost always blue and the wind just doesn't blow. It is so calm and peaceful that you'll absolutely love hiking in St. George in winter. In summer it is best to get out in the early mornings for a short hike or move up in elevation for a longer day-hike or back-packing experience. Summer in St. George Utah

This summer there are a number of things to enjoy in St. George. For example, right now at the Tuacahn Center for the Performing Arts there are two great productions to see. Les Miserables and The Sound of Music play alternate nights all through the summer. The shows are selling out in the 2,000 seat amphitheater so it would be good to get your tickets, if interested. http://www.dostgeorge.com/st-george-entertainment.html

Another new and great attraction for that just opened up is the Washington City Recreation Center. Now you may ask how this could be such a great attraction but it really is one of the best recreation centers in the United States. Click here to see photos of all that the center offers. http://www.dostgeorge.com/washington-city-recreation-center.html. To get to the center, you will go into Washington City on Telegraph road and turn left (north) on 300 east. The day-use fee is $5.00 (right now) but is well worth it for all there is to do.

Those are just a few of the great things to do. I'll post more later.
